Mill on the Brue 2018
Wednesday 16 May
Twenty-five excitable children boarded our new shiny coach and were ready for the Mill on the Brue adventure. After two hours of journey bliss, where the children happily chatted and played games, we had a lunch stop where the children were able to stretch their legs and enjoy a picnic lunch. The countdown soon followed along with the customary, ‘Are we nearly there yet?’ questions! After the three-hour journey we arrived and were greeted by Matt, Ben, also known at Hagrid, and Matt with the hat.
The children eagerly got off the coach and started the short walk to Mill on the Brue. What a wonderful sight awaited us… see attached pictures! After a short meet and greet, it was time to see the dorms, unpack the suitcases and settle in before the suitcases went on holiday to the luggage store! It was time to explore, and what a pleasure it was seeing all the children rolling down the hill and having fun. We were then fortunate enough to meet the owner and founder, Tricia, who welcomed us and introduced two new challenges!
Number one – Room Challenge. At the end of the trip, the tidiest room will be awarded a prize from the centre.
Number two – Zero Hero. At Mill on the Brue, they are passionate about looking after the environment and being aware of our responsibilities. The children’s challenge is to waste no food. So far, so good! With sheer grit and determination, of some children, both groups, Kingfishers and Owls, we ended our evening meal with no waste. Well done, Year Three!
The evening meal was followed by free time on the play area as well as gymnastics, football and beetle hunting! The last treat of the day included a hot chocolate and biscuit. The children are now tucked up in their sleeping bags after a fabulous first day!
